02 - iButton Newsletter

Dear 16p Families,

As you may know, during the very first Simons VIP Family Meeting, some of our 16p families reported that their children with the deletion or duplication seemed to have warmer body temperatures than siblings without the genetic change.  To learn more from the community, we surveyed 16p families participating in Simons VIP and found that many families agreed. We have begun to study the reported differences in temperatures through the Simons VIP iButton Study.

The iButton is a small device used to continually measure a person’s body temperature throughout the day. The watch battery-sized device is held in place on an individual’s back by a Band-Aid-like adhesive patch.

If you would like to participate in the iButton study, you will be asked to wear the iButton for at least 3 days. Everyone in the family is welcome to participate!  Participating families will receive an iButton package in the mail which contains all the necessary materials, with easy-to-follow directions for wearing and using the iButton!

Please let us know if you are interested in taking part in the iButton study and we will follow-up to get you involved (Any 16p families who have finished the initial round of online research surveys are eligible)!

Do not hesitate to let us know if you have any questions or concerns!

All the best,

-The Simons VIP Study Team
