Bethanny Smith-Packard, MS, LGC
Bethanny received dual B.S. degrees in Bio-Molecular Science and Psychology from Clarkson University in 2007 and received a Master of Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 2009. She was board certified in genetic counseling in September 2010. Bethanny has been a part of the SImons VIP initiative for several years, and knows many of the families very well. Bethanny works at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania, where in addition to working with Simons VIP, she is also involved with a number of other research projects. In her free time, she enjoys reading, movies, crafts, cooking and baking.
Stephen Martin, B.Sc.
Stephen earned his B.Sc. in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Secondary Education at Wilkes University. A Pennsylvania state-certified teacher in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and General Sciences (grades 7-12), Stephen currently works at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania as Research Coordinator in the Genomics Medicine Institute. Looking forward to utilizing his backgrounds in education as well as the sciences, he is very excited to be part of the Simons VIP team. In his free time, Stephen performs, writes, and records music and enjoys painting and sketching.
Ashley Wilson, MS, CGC
Ashley received her B.Sc. in Molecular Biology and Genetics with a minor in Developmental Psychology from the University of Guelph in 2004. She received her M.S. in Human Genetics from Sarah Lawrence College in 2007 and was board certified in genetic counseling in October 2009. In addition to her work with Simons VIP, Ashley works as a clinical pediatric and prenatal genetic counselor at the Children’s Hospital of New York Presbyterian. In her free time she enjoys training for half marathons, reading, spending time with friends and family, and volunteering in her community.
Heather Rocha, MS, LGC
Heather received her B.S. in Molecular / Cell Biology from Kutztown University in 2010. She then worked for two years as an aid in a special education classroom in Delaware. She received her M.S. in Genetic Counseling at UNC Greensboro in 2014. With Simons VIP, Heather spends most of her time developing resources, maintaining social media accounts, and working directly with families. In addition to her work with Simons VIP, Heather works as an adult and pediatric cancer genetic counselor at Geisinger Medical Center. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her dog, gardening, working on her old house, hiking, and camping.
Kara Fultz, MPH
Kara received her B.S in Biology from Mansfield University in 2010 and received her MPH in Epidemiology from The George Washington University in 2012. She has 5+ years’ experience working as a research coordinator, focusing on a wide range of studies from chronic disease to rare genetic conditions. Kara currently works at Geisinger Medical Center as a Research Coordinator. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking with her dog, watching baseball games, learning to play the banjo, and spending time with friends and family.
Simone Smith, MSc
Simone graduated with a BSc in Biology and Chemistry minor from Green Mountain College in 2013. Embracing her love of travel, Simone moved to London, England to complete her MSc in History and Philosophy of Science at University College London in 2015. Upon returning to the United States, Simone accepted a research coordinator position at Geisinger Health Center, working with the Simons VIP team. In her free time, she enjoys relaxing with some guitar playing, taking her horse out for a trail ride, hiking with her dog, and catching up on some podcasts and documentaries.
